Checking to see if they’re expanding too fast

The girls were out flying in the sunshine today. ¬†They’re currently enjoying the blooming forsythia, daffodils, grape hyacinth, purple blooming vinca, some early tulips, and the last of the pollen from the pussy willow tree. So at about 2:30pm today it was sunny, calm and 63 degrees. I decided I needed to check on the […]

Flow Hive

So I got the rest of my FlowHive and finally put it together. Here are some pictures. For an 8 frame box, which is a deep box, there are only 6 frames because they’re so thick. Each frame is plastic extruded and the cells are already built for the bees – not just like plasticell […]

Are you kidding me here?

Wow – it snowed this morning. The girls can’t be liking that. It remained cold and is supposed to get down to freezing again tonight and possibly snow again tomorrow. Big fat flakes were coming down. I did see that the forsythia is just starting to bloom and the pussy willow tree, which already had […]

I GOT IT!

I got my flow hive!! Woooohooo! And unexpectedly, they sent a hat with a veil and the hat says “Flow Founding Supporter” – that’s me. So now all I have to do is put the 6 flow frames together into the box I already made. I’m so excited.

bee meeting, early spring management and equalizing

Today was sunny for awhile and about 50 degrees outside and the girls were very active around the front of the hive and bringing in pollen. Then rain rain rain. I was finally able to make it to a bee meeting for the first time in months because I hit a week when I wasn’t […]

My first spring peek – woohoo – and clean up

At about 2:30pm today it was a much higher than average 59 degrees and sunny. The girls were flying like crazy so I thought – hey, I’m going to go take a peek. So I put on just the bee jacket and hood and gloves, went out and got the smoker out of storage and […]
